The 2016 Queensland Under 21’s leadership group has been announced, with Netball Queensland Elite Development Program member Kristen Oxenford named as the team’s captain.
Oxenford has previous leadership experience as the vice-captain in the Under 19’s team as well as the captain of the Division One Golden South Jaguars in the Samsung Queensland State Netball League
Under 21’s Head Coach Christine Vogue is confident Oxenford will step up to the challenge.
“Kristen is definitely a mature and caring athlete, and she’ll be able to bring those qualities to her role as captain,” she said.
Oxenford’s fellow Elite Development Program member Dominique Scott, who has also held leadership positions in a team before, has been named as one of two vice-captains.
“Dom is a good thinker on court, and we’ll be looking for her to bring her thinking and communicating ability to this role,” Vogue said.
New recruit for The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds Hulita Haukinima will join Scott as the team’s other vice-captain.
“Hulita brings many years of experience in state teams and leadership roles to the table,” Vogue said.
“We’ll be looking for her to bring some of the experiences and leadership qualities she’s gained from working with the Firebirds back to our team.”
The Queensland Under 21’s will compete in the Australian Under 21’s National Netball Championships from 8-13 March in Launceston, Tasmania.
