Netball celebrates Harmony Day

Netball Australia, Mission Queensland Firebirds Australia Post One Netball Ambassadors Beryl Friday, Bec Bulley, Clare McMeniman and Netball Queensland Ambassador Jemmason Power are proud supporters of Harmony Day, which is celebrated on 21 March every year in celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity.

Harmony Day is managed by the Department of Social Services (DSS) and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

ANZ Championship Harmony Day Round
The games held in Round Four of the ANZ Championship in Australia, coinciding with the national week of Harmony Day events, represent a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved in our sport to wear orange and show our support and commitment of netball as an inclusive sport, including players, coaches, officials, administrators and spectators.

The Hyundai A-League, AFL, NRL and many other codes have games and activities dedicated to Harmony Day, and we will similarly be demonstrating our support through our two Australian-based ANZ Championship games;

Adelaide Thunderbirds vs Melbourne Vixens at Netball SA Stadium, Sunday 22 March.

NSW Swifts vs West Coast Fever at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, Monday 23
March.

Netball Queensland will also have a presence in remote communities, promoting One Netball and celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity through these events and would like to encourage the community to get involved.

Netball Queensland One Netball ambassador Jemmason Power will visit Cloncurry on March 20 -21 as a guest speaker at the Cloncurry Women’s Day Luncheon and Community Visit.

Power will speak to more than 100 attendees about One Netball initiatives addressing the barriers to engagement with netball experienced by many Australian communities, promoting the value of women in sport and sharing her experiences playing netball at an elite level in Queensland.

Power will also hold a clinic for local school students and visit Mount Isa Netball Association where an Australia Post One Netball Connected Clubs and Communities workshop will be delivered to committee members.
