SUNCOAST Region representative teams are primed for the 2013 State Event season after participating in a regional carnival held on Saturday, February 16 at Caboolture Netball Association.
Sunshine Coast, Caloundra, Caboolture, Nambour, Noosa and Coolum Netball Associations organised a number of their junior representative teams to attend the carnival and compete not for points, but for practice.
Caboolture President Greg Sonter said the carnival offers teams in the region the opportunity to experience match play prior to the commencement of the proper season.
“It’s a Suncoast Region pre-season rep development concept where there’s no trophy, no scoring and we just basically do up a draw,” he said.
“We’ve been running these things for about seven years however normally they’re played over three Sundays from mid-February to March but condensing the format has worked much better.
“It’s a good early hit out before the first official carnival, which is usually at the end of March, and with teams still sorting out combinations it’s a great chance to compete against other teams.”
