The Brisbane West Lions have progressed to the Grand Final of the Mission Queensland State Netball League (MQSNL) competition after defeating the Capricorn Claws 53:42 in the Preliminary Final on Saturday night.
After a slow start, the Lions were seven points down at half time, but the team dominated the third quarter, turning the game around.
“It was a massive turnaround. We finally found some connections and turned lots of ball over and changed the strategy a bit. It worked really well,” said Coach Shaye Gillett.
The game was the last chance for the Lions to make the Grand Final after losing the Major Semi-Final last week to the Kedron Wavell Services Club Cougars, who they will face again next weekend.
Gillett said it will be a tough game but she is optimistic about the team’s chances.
“Cougars are quality, but you just never know what can happen on the day and what the girls can do, so I’d like to think they can still win it.”
“We’ll just train as usual. They went for three last time quite well against Cougars and we’ve just got to be able to go for four this time, and stay with them and get ahead,” said Gillett.
The MQSNL Grand Final will take place next Saturday July 14 at Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre at 6 pm.
