The Elite Development Squad has claimed only its second win of the Queensland Champions Cup season, with victory over the McDonald’s Steelcats in Townsville over the weekend.
The EDS travelled to Townsville for the round nine double-header with the home side winning 34 points to 30 points in the first of two tight matches at the weekend. The EDS came back stronger in the following game claiming a 44 to 40 point win.
The matches provided a great opportunity for two local girls; 15-year-old Hannah Crowley and 16-year-old Georgia Bulley, to experience QCC action taking the court with the EDS.
In another development opportunity, the EDS’s stand in coaches for the double-header— former Firebirds Kierra Trompf and Lauren Nourse—were able to give the Squad an insight into netball at the top-level.
At the half-way mark in the QCC season the EDS’s head coach, Tracey Jeans Fraser, can see how the inaugural program is developing young talent in the State.
“We can see at an individual level how effective the program is with lots of girls getting the opportunity to experience the rigueur of being an elite athlete and it will ultimately make our State more competitive,” said Ms Jeans Fraser.
The EDS next take the court on Wednesday, May 22 against the Brisbane West Lions at Logan Metro from 7pm.
