After 17 weeks of top level netball involving 19 teams and over 200 players it’s now all on the line as the best of the best hit the courts with the premier state competitions, The Queensland Champions Cup (QCC) and the Mission Queensland State Netball League (MQSNL) heading into finals.
The Brisbane North Cougars has already secured its spot in the MQSNL grand final but will be anxiously awaiting the outcome of the preliminary game being played in Rockhampton this Saturday night between Capricorn Claws and Brisbane West Lions, which will decide its opposition.
Brisbane West Lions coach Margie Sugars said they are not worried about having to travel to Rockhampton as all teams have been on the road this season and are looking forward to hitting the court and booking a place in the grand final.
“All the girls are all very excited and have been talking on team Facebook page and are all very positive and looking forward to an intense game in front of a big Rocky crowd,” Sugars said.
“It was a bit of a shock finding out on Tuesday we were travelling but we will manage and are preparing for a tough match.”
“We played the Claws in Mackay earlier in the season and we came away with the win.”
“It was a tough match, they are very physical but my girls are up to the challenge and then hopefully meeting Cougars in the Grand Final the following week at home,” Sugars said.
Back in Brisbane, it will action packed finals netball at the Hibiscus Sport Complex at Klumpp Road, Mt Gravatt with the QCC semi-finals being held on Saturday night.
Court 4 – Major Semi – SunCoast Lynx (1) v Carina Leagues Club Tigers (2)
Court 3 – Minor Semi – Kedron Wavell Services Club Cougars (3) v Brisbane West Lions (4)
The loser of the major semi-final and winner of the minor semi-final will then back up Sunday morning at 10am in the preliminary final to fight it out for the chance to contest the 2014 QCC Grand Final on the Ekka show holiday.
Make sure you mark both grand finals in your calendars, the QCC Grand Final, Wednesday 13 August 2014 at 6:30pm. Make the most of the Ekka people’s day and come to the game at 6:30pm at the State Netball Centre after you have visited the Netball Queensland stand at the Ekka and grabbed a brand new Firebirds showbag.
The MQSNL Grand Final is Saturday August 16 at 5pm at Hibiscus Sports Complex.
