Wildcats and Tigers to clash in intriguing second round Samsung QSNL match-up

Brisbane South Wildcats and Carina Leagues Club Tigers will clash in a headline Samsung QSNL Division 1 match up on Tuesday night seeking their first wins of the season.

The Wildcats drew 44-44 with Suncoast Lynx in round one, while the Tigers forfeited a five-point half-time lead to go down 56-49 to defending premiers Brisbane North Cougars.

Tigers star Alexia Baker, whose side will host round two at Ormiston College, said her team took a hard lesson from their loss to the Cougars and would look to make amends against Wildcats.

“We’ve been focusing on pushing through the whole game, not just the first half,” Baker said.

“I think we took the foot off because we thought we might have had it. We’ve got to take each quarter as it comes and treat them as their own individual games and push through to the very end.

“We can’t judge what Wildcats have done in the past. They have a new team and a lot of the girls have played together so their combinations are already strong. We can’t underestimate them and I know they’re going to come out firing. They’re a 60-minute team and we need to put our foot down from the start.

“We’re excited to have a home round and would love to see the supporters out there.”

Wildcats coach Camille Rieck was impressed by her team’s performance against Suncoast Lynx and expects further improvement against the Tigers.

“We need to respect the experience and skill level of the Tigers, but not underestimate our own ability to perform what we practice at training,” Rieck said.

“The message will be finish what we start, execute well and make sure we remain in the game by making good decisions.

“Last week’s match was a real introduction to the players of the quality, standards and intensity required to play Division 1 netball. It was a physical match and the score was swinging like a see-saw for much of the game. A draw is always frustrating, but is always better than a loss. We’ll take it and head back to training to look at what we need to do to execute better.”
