Coaching Workshops

Attendance at a workshop or clinic provides coaches with an opportunity to update their skills and their accreditation points, and these will be advertised here from time to time. These may be offered by Netball Queensland or run by an Association and/or Region.

Host a Workshop or Accreditation Course

Netball Queensland affiliated Associations and Clubs may apply to host the Development & Intermediate Courses within their own environments. For more information regarding host a coaching courses, please see below:

Get in the Know

At every SSN Queensland Firebirds home game up to 20 coaches and umpires (total 20) will experience this exciting development opportunity that includes the following:

  • Pre-game and post-game discussions lead by the facilitator
  • Pre-game and post–game:  joined by Coaching staff from Firebirds, opposition teams and Umpiring personnel (briefing and debriefing)
  • Catering – finger food
  • Ticket to the Firebirds home game – all seated together
  • During game discussions and workbook tasks

This is a practical, hands-on workshop about coaching NetSetGO.  The workshop provides a great opportunity to learn new skills and develop your understanding of the games and activities to have a fun and rewarding season developing the future of Netball.

Some of the topics that will be covered include:

  • NetSetGO Background
  • Modified games and netball skills
  • Group Management
  • Setting up a session
  • How to ‘CHANGE IT’ – making adjustments to activities to suit the needs of the players
  • Introducing the use of questioning into your coaching – how to develop thinking netballers

Coaches should come to the session dressed (including suitable footwear) to participate in the practical activities and games.

Game Sense

The Game Sense Workshop is intended to provide professional development opportunities for participants who have completed, at a minimum, the Netball Australia Foundation Coaching Course. Participation in the workshop will provide updating points. There are no assessment or competency requirements for this workshop.

Course duration – The Game Sense Workshop can be tailored to the needs of the participant group. The workshop has been developed to be conducted over 2-3 hours.


Selection is a crucial component of athlete development and pathways. This course is designed to up-skill coaches on selection techniques appropriate for selecting individual athletes into teams or programs.

Mentoring is an effective way for coaches and officials to learn and develop under the supervision of a senior coach. Mentoring can assist with coaching skill improvement and can be a sounding board for problems.
