Netball Queensland will be holding two coaching seminars in partnership with Burdekin and Metropolitan District Netball Associations in February.
Over the past year feedback has been received from Coaching Conveners and Presenters from accreditation courses. Their observation communicated back to NQ, was that some “coaches felt deficiencies in fundamental areas of coaching”.
Netball Queensland Coach Development Officer, Margaret Monaghan said the States peak body value their coaches and saw an opportunity to invest in their professional development through these seminars.
“I believe our coaches will get an opportunity to experience something new at these seminars and from here go on to become innovative coaches and in turn assist our future netballers,” Monaghan said.
“This is an inclusive seminar that is open to coaches of all sports and levels, which will allow for the sharing of knowledge from coaches across a range of sports and experiences.”
Monaghan said there are some fabulous homegrown coaches delivering a wealth of knowledge and experience to the next crop of Queensland coaches.
Some of the presenters being utilised are, Kylee Byrne, the new netball Queensland Elite Development Coach and previous Fusion coach, will be discussing skill progression, best practice for selecting athletes and revisiting the fundamentals of coaching.
Karen Topp, who is currently undertaking research with the University of Queensland around game sense and research about how young netballers learn, participate at the development stage will share her findings.
Followed by sport consultant, Mike McLaughlin who will be discussing community based coaching and looking beyond the court, which includes retaining volunteer coaches.
The Netball Queensland Coaching Seminar is open to netball coaches of all levels as well as coaches from other sports from grass roots to the elite level.
