Held at the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre at Palm Beach, Gold Coast.
The Australian Indigenous Schoolgirls Netball Carnival is an initiative of the Budgies Australian Netball Indigenous Corporation (BANIC). The Budgies has been operating for over 10 years.
Every year, states and territories bring their players ranging in ages from 11 years to 19 years. The girls compete in the National carnival in January of each year. From there, Australian Indigenous Teams (known as Budgies) are selected and they compete in various carnivals throughout the year.
BANIC acknowledges the difficulties and disadvantages for Indigenous people whether it be financial, demographics etc., but we are working towards increasing opportunities for our girls. While we have Indigenous netballers playing in the ANZ Championships, it is hoped that someday in the near future we will have an Indigenous Netballer playing in the Australian Diamonds.
