Netball Queensland is pleased to announce the appointment of the 2019 management positions for the Queenland 17U State Team.
Lauren Forbes will take the reigns in 2019 after spending 2017 and 2018 as assistant coach and understudy of Simone Nalatu. Forbes has been a long-time state league coach at the Suncoast Lynx.
Forbes will be joined by Erin Byrnes and Jodi Thomas as joint assistant coaches.
Richard McInnes, Netball Queensland General Manager – High Performance, said that the introduction of the dual assistant coaching team was testament to the quality of coaches in the Queensland programs.
“The calibre of coaches applying for these roles made for a challenging process for the appointment panel.”
“One of our priorities is the development of a pool of quality coaches, the interest in these roles has resulted in the appointment of a Head Coach and two Assistant Coaches to each program.”
Both Byrnes and Thomas will be making their coaching debut at this level.
Byrnes began her coaching career with QSNL Division 2 Country team the Magnetic North Steelcats and has progressed through the development and advanced coaching pathways – taking the reins of the Brisbane East Tigers Division 2 side this year, and now getting the nod at the state level.
Thomas comes off the back of a successful season as Assistant Coach of the Brisbane West Lions who were runners up in this year’s Queensland State Netball League Division 1 Grand Final.
Erin Hodgkin returns to her role as Team Manager in 2019 after travelling with the State U17 in 2017 and 2018.
