The Queensland Fusion’s finals hopes were all but ended by the Victorian Fury on the weekend as they lost both of clashes on the Gold Coast.
The first match was a close contest with Fury holding on to win 46-42 in the curtain raiser to the ANZ Championship match between the Queensland Firebirds and Melbourne Vixens at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Down by eight goals at half-time, the Fusion staged a comeback to get within one point of the lead in the final quarter. But the Fury did enough to secure the points, with Jane Cook shooting 28 goals at 94 per cent to help her team over the line.
With ANZ Championship players back in the mix on Sunday the Fury dominated, scoring a 55-44 victory to consolidate their spot on top of the ladder. Firebird Beryl Friday stood out in defeat for the Fusion, scoring 31 goals at 84 per cent accuracy.
The fifth-placed Fusion is now relying on other results in Weeks 7 and 8 to keep alive their hopes of a finals berth.
