17U and 19U Queensland Captains Named

With the National Netball Championships just one week away, Netball Queensland are proud to announce players who will steer the 17U and 19U teams through the six day competition.

The 17U Queensland Team will be led by Golden South duo, Captain Reilley Batcheldor and Vice-Captain Abi Houston. The pair both return for their second year in the maroon after contesting last years nationals in South Australia.

At the helm of the 19U team will be co-captains Macy Gardner (Qld Fusion) and Sarahpheinna Woulf (Sunshine Coast), with Mia Stower (Darling Downs) named vice-captain.

19U Head Coach Simone Nalatu praised the quality of leadership from both captains noting that a player vote couldn’t split them.

“Macy has demonstrated really strong on court leadership during our preparation and her maturity and experience from the Firebirds and Fusion program is clearly evident. It has been so very pleasing to see her development in this area,” she said.

Woulf, who missed out on the 2018 National Championships after rupturing her ACL has been commended on her contribution upon returning to the team.

“Sarahphienna has been a strong voice and contributor from the sideline as she returns from her rehabilitation. She has demonstrated to the team that your contribution from off court can be just a valuable on court and her peers have recognised this also,” Nalatu said.

All with unique qualities to bring to the leadership group, Stower provides additional support to the voices of Gardner and Woulf.

“Mia’s direction, encouragement and support of her team mates and the coaching team is measured and insightful and her appointment as vice-captain is recognition of this.”

Both teams were presented with their Queensland dresses at the Netball Queensland Awards on Saturday night at the Hilton Brisbane.

The National Netball Championships runs from 11 – 16 April at the Queensland State Netball Centre. The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come along and support our exceptional Queensland talent.
