CRUNCH time is just around the corner for more than 40 Queensland U17 and U19 netballers with final State Team selections occurring this weekend at the State Netball Centre, Mt Gravatt.
The teams, announced late Sunday afternoon, will represent Queensland at the 2013 Underage National Championships held from April 8-13 in Darwin.
Two days of fitness testing, court work, match play, speed and agility, and specialist sessions will provide selectors with the opportunity to observe players one last time.
Netball Queensland Athlete Development Officer Sheree Smith said the selection process has been ongoing since initial trials in September of last year.
“Netball Queensland held a Screening and Development Camp late last year which put more than 100 of our best underage netballers through their paces,” she said.
“Based on performances across that weekend, players were selected in squads and trained together in the lead up to December’s Phase 2 trials.
“So, after a massive build up and a lot of hard work, we’ve at last come down to final selection time.”
Netball Queensland’s best coaches and selectors, including Mission Queensland Firebirds coach Roselee Jencke, will be attending this weekend’s final selections to run the ruler over the hopefuls.
