Fusion ready to fight

The Queensland Fusion have a tough road ahead of them if they want to journey into the Australian Netball League (ANL) Grand Final this weekend.

To qualify for the Grand Final, Fusion, currently sitting in fourth place, need to beat top ranked team and 2014 Champions Victorian Fury this Saturday at the Waverley Netball Centre in Melbourne.

After a devastating two goal loss against Fury in the 2014 Grand Final, Coach Jenny Brazel thinks this year Queensland has what it takes to win its first ANL Championship.

“This team is such an exciting mix of talented, young future stars of our game. This finals series for us is about going one better than last year,” Brazel said.

“They are ready to fire this weekend, and we believe we have the team which will win Queensland its first ANL Championship.”

Fusion has had their fair share of setbacks this season, with numerous injuries and some big losses forcing them to fight for their spot in the finals series.

“We have had so many hurdles this season, including losing so many players through injury but in so many ways it has galvanized the team.

“It’s meant that everyone has had to be prepared to step up and fill the void left by those injuries.”

Despite the injuries, Fusion are ready to fight their way to the top and Brazel is confident her team can cause the upset of the season.

“The last time we played Fury, we lost by eight; we drew even with them so many times but we just could not break that glass ceiling,” Brazel said.

The Victorian powerhouse have gone on a 30 game winning streak in the ANL.

“Fury have been the team to beat all season, so we have to step up and take it to another level,” Brazel said.

“We having nothing to lose, and the girls are prepared to bring their best as it will take the best we have got to win.”

Winning the Semi-Final will secure the Fusion a spot in the Grand Final on Sunday at 12:00pm, while a loss will mean they will battle it out for third place in the Preliminary Final at 10:00am.
