Gomes in 2018 Queensland Fusion Squad

The Netball Queensland Talent Management Panel comprising Roselee Jencke, Jenny Brazel, Tracey Fear, Tracey Jeans-Fraser and Richard McInnes would like to announce the 2018 Queensland Fusion Squad for 2018.

The 2018 squad has received a major boost with all of the Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds Training Partners being selected and some of Queensland’s most promising young players such as 19U team members Tippah Dwan, Macy Gardner and Mia Stower. Netball Queensland are also delighted to welcome back Chanel Gomes, who will return to the court after having a hip replacement, following her four year ANZ Championships career with the West Coast Fever.  Gomes was one of Australia’s youngest ever players debuting for the Diamonds in 2012 as a 21-year old.

General Manager – Performance & Competitions, Richard McInnes was pleased with the mix of youth and experience in the squad.

“Chanel Gomes brings so much experience on and off the court to this group and we are really pleased to be able to provide her this opportunity.  She has worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to rehabilitate and get back on court with a prosthetic hip and that alone is a great example to our younger squad members of the professionalism required to succeed at the highest levels,” McInnes said.

“It is important that we create an environment around the Fusion team where our young players can learn and grow, so it is also great to welcome back Chanel Dyer and Dominique Scott to the Fusion squad, to provide cool heads through the mid-court. A squad of 16 has been selected with 12 selected each week to play providing a great opportunity for 19U team members Tippah Dwan, Macy Gardner and Mia Stower to work with our more experienced players.”

The Queensland Fusion team participate in the Australian Netball League, a seven round competition through May and June underpinning the Suncorp Super Netball.  Players from SSN teams who don’t receive a lot of court time will also have the opportunity to play in the ANL each weekend, adding to the quality of this competition.
