ANL Round 1 to follow Firebirds vs Swifts clash

Ticket holders for the Queensland Firebirds vs New South Wales Swifts grand final replay on Saturday 30 April will be treated to a blockbusting encore, with Queensland Fusion to take on New South Wales Waratahs at 7.30pm in round one of the Australian Netball League (ANL).

The Fusion are the breeding ground for the next generation of Firebirds, with several squad members from the ANZ Championship contenders expected to take the court for their feeder side after the headline clash.

Fusion attacker Laura Scherian said the ANL bridged an important gap between the state competitions and the Trans-Tasman ANZ Championship.

“It’s the only open competition which is purely Australian. It’s the highest level of netball in the country,” Scherian said.

“You’ll get to see some of the up and coming Firebirds come back and develop with the Fusion. It’s an opportunity to make a name for yourself and show what the state has coming through.

“In our team we’ve got a good balance of fresh enthusiasm and the older, more experienced heads. It’s a great mix.”

Scherian said the opportunity to play encore to the anticipated Firebirds vs Swifts clash would bring out the best in the team.

“Queensland versus New South Wales is an important game in any code and the team is ready to go out there and put in a big effort on Saturday,” she said.

“There isn’t anything more special than wearing your Queensland colours.”

Limited tickets are still available for the highly anticipated double header, which is expected to be played in front of a capacity crowd at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Visit for full details.
