The Queensland Under 21’s State Team have landed in Launceston, Tasmania, for the 2016 Under 21’s National Netball Championships.
The competition starts tomorrow, with the Queensland team playing off against Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory for the Australian Champions title.
Last year, the team finished third after defeating New South Wales 50 to 40 in the bronze medal match, earning the first bronze medal in seven years.
In 2016, the team hopes to better that medal and move up higher in the standings.
The leadership group has previously been announced, with with Netball Queensland Elite Development Program member Kristen Oxenford named as the team’s captain.
Oxenford’s fellow Elite Development Program member Dominique Scott has been named as joint vice-captain alongside new recruit for The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds Hulita Haukinima.
Head Coach Christine Vogue is confident the trio will step up into their leadership positions, acknowledging that all three had previous leadership experience and would be able to set a good example both on and off the court.
The Queensland Under 21’s kick off their nationals campaign tomorrow at 4:00pm against Victoria.
