It’s finals time!

Grand Final fever is hitting a netball court near you!

In netball heartland players of all ages at Associations across the state will be vying to finish out their season with a Grand Final win.

Jimboomba Netball and Townsville City Netball Association have turned their finals weekend into a celebration of netball, with a carnival atmosphere including rides, fairy floss, jumping castle, and trophy presentations.

Townsville president Marg Cedar said the Association has been holding the grand final carnival for the past five years and the kid’s love it.

“It is mainly to give the juniors some form of celebration, so instead of having a formal presentation night we have turned it into one big party,” Cedar said.

Cedar said it is not only the kids playing in the finals that benefit from the carnival but the community really get behind the event and it is a great way to get more people involved in netball.

“I think it has raised the profile of netball in the community. People see we are putting back into our members and of course making netball fun, as it is not just about winning,” Cedar said.

“The NetSetGO kids have a run around right through to our 17-18-year-olds and then we finish off the day with the senior grand finals that night, so it really is a big celebration of netball.”

A number of Associations have already held their finals weekend, including Rockhampton Netball who presented their annual perpetual trophies and Shailer Park Netball Association who saw plenty of hard fought battles on the court.
