Netball Queensland won three awards from seven nominations at the 22nd annual QSport Awards at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday 8 December.
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark was awarded Administrator of the Year, Downey Park Netball Association Vice President Elizabeth White OAM was awarded Volunteer of the Year and the ANZ Championship Grand Final won Queensland Sport Event of the Year.
The Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds, their coach Roselee Jencke and star players Clare McMeniman and Laura Geitz were shortlisted as finalists in their respective categories, but were beaten by worthy winners from some of Queensland’s top Rio 2016 Olympic performers.
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark said netball’s accolades were fitting recognition for a hugely successful year.
“I would like to congratulate all of our deserving nominees and worthy winners on their achievements in what has been an outstanding year for netball,” Clark said.
“Netball tied with swimming in winning the most awards of any sport on the night, which reflects our booming popularity and growing standing among not only Queensland sport fans, but our industry peers.
“Personally, I was honoured to have been named Administrator of the Year and would like to thank all the dedicated staff and the board at Netball Queensland for helping deliver an exciting vision for netball in our state. I can’t wait to build on this success in what promises to be a game-changing year for the sport in 2017.”
