A record number of teams entered to take part in the 2013 Queensland Catholic Netball Association’s (QCNA) QC Cup which was held on Monday May 20 for primary Catholic schools and Tuesday May 21 for the Catholic high school netball teams.
Teams from all over Brisbane, the Gold Coast and from as far as north Gympie came to compete, resulting in 34 schools sending teams.
Due to the delay in the readiness of courts at QCNA’s home (sublet from Downey Park Netball Association) the QCNA teamed up with the Metropolitan Districts Netball Association and moved the Carnival to Wembley Park.
On Monday, 111 teams compete with 433 games played. The winner was St Williams of Grovely (pictured) and the runner-up was Siena Catholic College from the Sunshine Coast.
On Tuesday, the action was just as exciting with 94 teams competing in 414 games. Taking out first place was St John Fisher College from Bracken Ridge (pictured) and the runner up was St Columban’s College from Caboolture.
The two-day event was a great success and special thanks to all the volunteers, as the entire carnival is run by vollies and headed by Carnival Committee member, Claire Fitzsimon.
Claire’s hard work and service as a volunteer has been recognised through NQ’s Volunteer recognition program.
