Congratulations to Queensland netball players—Mia Henderson, Hayley Peters and Kahn Renata (pictured in order)—who have been chosen to represent Australia in the Trans-Tasman Secondary Schoolgirls Netball Tournament and to Danielle Edwards, who has also been chosen as the Assistant Coach for the Australian team.
Mia, Hayley, Kahn and Coach, Danielle, are currently in Rotorua, New Zealand, for the Tournament which is underway from May 27 to 30, 2013.
The girls are certainly enthusiastic, with Mia Henderson saying “I’m looking forward to everything! I can’t wait to get onto court. I’ve made some great friends.”
Some of Asia and the Pacific’s most talented young netball players are on hand at the ever-growing tournament which now boasts the largest number of participating teams in the tournament’s ten-year history.
The hosting role is shared and teams come have come to New Zealand from Australia, Malaysia, Samoa, Fiji and the Pacific Rim.
The format of the competition is simple, with the ten teams split into two groups of five and playing a round robin format. Semi-finals and the Grand Final follow.
For many of the players, the Trans-Tasman Tournament is their first opportunity to test their skills at an international level against other netballers of the same age and we have high hopes for our three Queensland girls.
Kahn Renaya, Mia Henderson and Hayley Peters were selected in August 2012 at the School Sport Australia Championships in Darwin. The Queensland team, then under the guidance of coach, Danielle Edwards, finished second at the championship.
Good luck Mia, Hayley, Kahn and Danielle!
