Nissan State Titles 16U, 18U teams named

Queensland’s top young netballers have been identified as Netball Queensland names twelve 16U and seven 18U teams to compete in the Nissan 16U & 18U State Titles at the QSNC from Sunday 29 September to Tuesday 1 October.

More than 460 netballers from across Queensland competed in trials through Netball Queensland’s Emerging Talent Program before being named in the 12 teams.

These players will now compete at the State Titles and vie for selection in the Queensland 17U team to compete at the National Netball Championships in Tasmania 18-23 April 2020.

Netball Queensland GM Performance and Sport Entertainment Richard McInnes congratulated the successful players on their selection.

He said the Emerging Talent Program was proving successful through increased player participation giving selectors a larger pool of athletes to choose from.

“We are developing an ‘eyes everywhere’ approach to talent identification and development with a focus on creating opportunities for our athletes to progress to higher levels of competition,” he said.

“This level of competition will also incentivise our talented young players to stay in the game and push for selection in State teams going forward.”

Following the highly successful inaugural 16U State Titles held last year, Netball Queensland added an 18U competition to this event.  With the success of the inaugural HART Sapphire Series this year, each of the seven licence-holders have also assembled a team to compete, for the first time, at the Nissan 18U State Titles.

“State selectors will see our very best talent on court at these State Titles with all players aged 15-18 years eligible for selection, including the current 17U and 19U State players and other young talent playing across the HART Sapphire Series, Ruby League and Queensland Premier League,” McInnes said.

“The 2020 Queensland 19U Squad will then be selected at the end of the State Titles with these players having an opportunity to go on and play for Queensland at the National Netball Championships,” he said.

The Northern Rays unique geographical challenges have resulted in a squad of 18 players being named with the final team to be confirmed following their first training session – date to be confirmed.
