The Kedron Wavell Services Club Cougars have dominated in Round 15 of the Queensland Champions Cup (QCC) defeating the Golden South Jaguars 61:27 at the State Netball Centre on Saturday June 22.
The high-stakes game, deciding the rankings for the finals, began with a slow first quarter with both teams struggling to find their footing after several time-outs were called.
An explosive second quarter followed with the Cougars firing ahead as a result of precise passing, accurate shooting and strong defensive play.
Fluid teamwork and multiple intercepts from Centre Bronte Orr and Wing Attack Chanel Dyer saw the Cougars’ lead extended to 34-points by the end of the match.
Cougars Captain Kate Bullen said scoring a win in the lead up to the finals next week was a big positive for the team.
“Such a massive win is always nice before finals. It’s a big confidence boost and everything just came together really well tonight for us,” said Bullen.
With the Cougars stronger than ever, training will be focused on reinforcing their strengths and tightening up their basic skills, but Bullen says the best is yet to come.
“We are just starting to show how capable we are and how good a team we are. I think our best games are about to come,” she said.
This victory puts the Cougars second on the ladder as they head into the semi-finals on Saturday, June 29 where they take on the Carina Leagues Club Tigers at Logan Metro at 8:30pm.
