Netball Queensland’s Elite Development Squad (EDS) has produced its most convincing win of the Queensland Champions Cup season with victory over the Brisbane West Lions in round 11 at the Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre on Wednesday May22, 2013.
The EDS produced a strong second half to end winners 41 to 26 goals, the EDS was down by three goals at the first break but steadied and lead at each of the next breaks.
The EDS has built on its round 10 victory to make it two in a row, and only its third win of the season.
The Lions, sitting one spot above the EDS on the ladder, had few answers as the EDS grew in confidence and cohesion through the match.
EDS coach, Tracey Jeans Fraser, was impressed with her young team’s maturity.
“We didn’t panic after the first quarter and the girls built in each quarter and gained confidence through the game and by the end there was some great team work,” said Ms Jeans Fraser.
“The girls were strong across the court, but I thought our centre, Claire Haigh, showed strong leadership,” she said.
Despite the positive result Jeans Fraser says it will be back to basics at training.
“I thought there was a lack of discipline at times with our passes so we’ll need to work on that,” she said.
The rest of round 11 matches will be played on Saturday May25, the Logan Wildcats face the Carina Leagues Tigers and the McDonald Steelcats and the Kedron Wavell Cougars will do battle. The EDS will now prepare for the round 12 clash with the Suncoast Lynx on Wednesday May 29 at Logan Metro from 7pm.
