Everything you need to know: 2016 Queensland State Netball League
Some of the state’s best netball talent is gearing up for the first round of the hotly contested 2016 Queensland State Netball League (QSNL) and we’ve put together everything you need to know about Queensland’s elite state-wide competition!
For the 2016 season, the competition will assume a new structure. Division One will retain it’s existing format, while Division Two will now have two sub-divisions (City and Country) in order to promote better athlete retention, more localised travel and a stronger competition. The two sub-divisions will come together for an extended finals series after the regular season.
The teams will have a chance to see where they stand before the competition starts at the Pre-Season Shootout on Tuesday 19 January at the Hibiscus Sports Complex. If you want a preview of the players before you back a team for the season, entry to the Shootout is free and the first match starts at 6:25pm.
The Opening Round of the season will be held at the Hibiscus Sports Complex on January 30 and 31 and is going to be jam-packed with netball action. Make sure to be there as this will be the only time in the 2016 season that every team from across the state will be in Brisbane together!
Following the opening weekend, the Division One matches will be held on Tuesdays nights along with the majority of the Division Two City matches. All Division Two Country matches will be hosted on weekends at regional venues right across Queensland, as well as a select few Division Two City games. You can view the draws here on the Netball Queensland Website.
2016 will also see the introduction of the City vs. Country Series. This concept comprises of a three match series that will bring the best City and Country players from the Division Two competition together to showcase their skills. These matches will be used as curtain-raisers to the Australian Netball League (ANL) matches and other country-based events. You can view the new uniforms for the two teams here on the Netball Queensland Website.
The Queensland State Netball League is the state’s premier netball competition and creates a direct pathway to the Queensland Underage teams, the Queensland Fusion and even The Coffee Club Queensland Firebirds. To see some of Queensland’s most talented upcoming netballers, you can purchase your ticket at the door before each game. We hope to see you there supporting your region!
