Condolences to Queensland netball family

Netball Queensland would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those involved in yesterday’s tragic accident outside Childers. No words can describe the unimaginable sadness that you would be feeling at this incredibly difficult time.

We are devastated that two people have tragically lost their lives. One of those was an 8-year-old member of our Queensland Netball Community. We are heartbroken for her family, friends, school and netball communities that have been impacted by this tragedy. We will continue to offer our support in any way we can and encourage our wider netball and school communities to band together and support each other at this time.

Many young children and their families have descended upon Bundaberg this weekend to represent their schools at the Primary School Cup. They are all connected to this tragedy and will need the support of those around them. Tomorrow, before games begin, we will be paying tribute to the lives that were lost in this accident. At 7.30am, teams will gather and stand for a minute’s silence in memory of the young girl and gentlemen who passed away. We would like to invite members of the Bundaberg netball association and wider community to attend and pay their respects.

The Coomera Netball Club with the support of Netball Queensland and The Department of Education and Training has initiated a fundraising effort to assist the family of the young girl. We would encourage any donation or fundraising efforts to be directed to this Go Fund Me campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/qzse6-support-for-grieving-family?sharetype=teams&member=764010&rcid=r01-1536997521-950fe3bb34b748d4&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w) Fundraising at tomorrows tribute and throughout the remainder of the Primary School Cup will also be directed here.

We want to acknowledge again the police and emergency services personnel for their role in Friday’s event. On behalf of our community, we want to thank you again for your bravery, professionalism and support.

We would encourage anyone who has been affected in any way by this incident to please contact Lifeline 13 11 14.
