Janelle Derrington has contributed to Queensland's High-Performance pathways for over 30 years as a player, coach and umpire.
Derrington represented Queensland as a player from 1980 through to 1992 at schoolgirls, Under-21 and Open levels, and with true dedication and love for the sport, never missed a nationals over the 12-year period.
Following an injury in 1992, Derrington decided to step into the role of a coach. Initially Derrington took the position of the states Under-17's coach, however, still to this day you can find her coaching at grassroots levels.
Not only did Derrington have success as a player and coach, she also showed great skill as an umpire being presented her A Badge before being awarded her All Australian Umpiring Award in 1991. From there Derrington umpired national league competitions for several years before receiving her international Umpire Award in 1997 - the only Queensland umpire to do so.
Despite umpiring test matches all over the globe, Derrington also coached umpires and was a mentor, coach and presenter to the inaugural Queensland Umpiring Academy. For over 20 years she played a pivital role in umpire development in Queensland and in 2011 was awarded Life Membership at Netball Queensland
