Modified Netball Rules, also known as the Blue Band Initiative, has been introduced across Netball in Queensland to create a more inclusive and accessible game for all. These rules are tailored to suit individual players, ensuring everyone can participate in a safe, fair, and meaningful way.

These modifications may include adjustments such as allowing players to hold the ball for up to 6 seconds, additional foot movement when receiving the ball, and more, helping to support each player’s individual needs. Check out the guides below to see all the ways we’re making our game more inclusive.

The Modified Netball Rules will be implemented for:

  • All players participating in Netbility programs
  • Players with a disability* competing in mainstream community netball teams and competitions, where adjustments are required
  • Players with a disability participating in alternative formats, such as Unified teams*, to support inclusive play

PLAYERS

Below are documents to help players understand how they can request implementation of the Blue Band Initiative in mainstream netball. Within these documents, a Player Modified Rules Form is referred to where the play will identify which rules they need modified - this can be found below.

ASSOCIATIONS

Below are documents to assist Clubs and Associations in implementing modified rules within their competitions.

Associations can purchase Blue Bands in the Association Resources under the Disability Inclusion Toolkit.
