The resumption of competition netball across Queensland as part of Stage 3 restrictions has taken on added significance for one Association, with players returning to a brand new facility.
Underwood Park Netball Association (UPNA) has undergone a remarkable transformation courtesy of funding from the State Government, Local Council and the Association, with a new clubhouse including changeroom facilities and multi-use open meeting space, and an increase from six to 16 hard courts in total.
All courts have also been resurfaced as part of the facilities upgrade.
UPNA President Rachael McCurdy said the new facility is set to be a game changer for netball in the region.
“Our Association has enjoyed tremendous growth across the past decade, but that has also placed pressures on our resources and facilities in catering for an ever increasing number of participants,” McCurdy said.
“To have a space that is truly our own and caters for our members in a far more inclusive manner will foster the sense of community and togetherness that sits at the heart of netball.”
“As the Rochedale region more broadly continues to grow, we want to ensure we remain a first choice facility for new families in the area, which in turn will drive the continued success of our game in the local community.”
Netball Queensland’s General Manager – Delivery Network, Matthew Battams, said the new courts were a welcome addition to what was already a thriving netball region.
“State of the art facilities like this are a major driver in the growth of our game so it’s a win for both the local community and netball more broadly,” Battams said.
“We thank the State Government and Local Council for their ongoing support of netball in the region and look forward to seeing our members, be they players, coaches, officials or volunteers, back on court at this outstanding new facility.”
The new clubhouse and courts will be unveiled this coming Saturday July 11, with an official opening ceremony commencing, followed by the first round of winter season fixtures.
