Now in its eighth year, the Primary Schools Cup is a Netball Queensland initiative giving students in Years 4 to 6 the chance to experience competitive netball in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
This year's tournament will be the largest to date, with 110 teams representing 64 schools from across Queensland set to contest 623 matches across three divisions: Championship (33 teams), Challenge (42 teams) and Development (35 teams).
Approximately 1,210 young netballers are expected to take the court across the weekend, underlining just how far the competition has grown since its inception.
The breadth of participation this year reflects the ever-expanding reach of the Primary Schools Cup.
The Gold Coast leads the way with 27 schools taking part, followed closely by 25 from Brisbane and six from the Sunshine Coast.
A further six regional and interstate schools have made the journey to Brisbane to be part of the action, including Fraser Coast Anglican College, St Luke's Anglican School and Star of the Sea Catholic School (Hervey Bay) representing the Wide Bay-Fraser Coast region, St Joseph's School (Stanthorpe) from the Darling Downs, The Cathedral School (Townsville) from north Queensland, and Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, crossing the border from Northern New South Wales.
As always, there will be plenty of on-court highlights across the weekend, including the awarding of the Olivia Douglas Memorial Award to the Most Valuable Player in the Championship Grand Final.
Introduced in 2019, the award honours the memory of Olivia Douglas, a young Gold Coast netballer who tragically passed away in 2018 while travelling to the Primary Schools Cup, and remains one of the most meaningful moments of the entire event.
The 2026 Primary Schools Cup will also see Netball Queensland's Green Armband Initiative in place. Designed to support under-18 umpires, the initiative ensures young officials are easily identifiable by wearing a green armband, serving as a clear visual reminder to players, coaches and spectators that these officials are still developing their craft.
Respect for umpires at every level remains a core value across the sport, and events like the Primary Schools Cup provide the perfect setting to reinforce that culture among the game's youngest participants.
The event will also feature activations from Netball Queensland partners HART Sport, Tribal Sport, Woolworths, McDonalds and Suncorp.
