The Gold Coast Titans enter Sunday night’s hit-out against the TAE Aerospace Ipswich Jets at Nissan Arena as the only team yet to drop a game, with five wins and a bye, just a single victory ahead of the Jets.
“The Titans haven’t lost a game so they’re at the top of the ladder now, making it an interesting one,” Jets coach Paula Stuart said of the impending meeting.
“They play that different Kiwi style, with the zone, so we’ll be going through that during the week. I know most of them, I saw them last year, so I have a gist of what they do.”
The Jets will again line up without injured pair Lily Gribble and Danielle Taylor but Stuart is refusing to use the missing pair as an excuse.
“The main thing is concentrating on where we went wrong,” Stuart said of last week’s two-goal loss to the Carina Leagues Club Tigers.
“We didn’t get into second gear. It’s hard to adjust to changes but we have to ... I still think we have the talent.”
The Jets will however be boosted by the return of captain Hulita Veve from Suncorp Super Netball duties.
Two teams riding the high of victory last week will also be facing off at Nissan Arena on Sunday night, with both the Tigers and Bond University Bull Sharks searching desperately for points to push them up the ladder.
Bull Sharks coach Bec Stower said she knew her side’s first win of the season, a round six victory over the Brisbane South Wildcats, was coming.
“I can see the potential, it’s just getting that experience,” Stower said.
“Our main focus is on cutting down lapses allowing other teams to get momentum. We’ve mentally turned a corner where we know how to rein it in.”
The Tigers will be buoyed by their upset victory over the Jets, knowing a win over the Bull Sharks will push them into a top four position on the ladder.
“(It’s the) same mindset, our process but lifting further in other areas to compete for four quarters,” Tigers coach Jo Morgan said.
Kicking off this Sunday’s round seven action, the ACU Brisbane North Cougars are coming off a bye week to host the Wildcats at South Pine Indoor Sports Complex, with the game to be livestreamed on News Corp’s KommunityTV.
