The partnership renewal was officially announced by Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies and Aurizon Head of Corporate Affairs Paul Cronin at Saturday's sold-out Suncorp Super Netball Queensland derby at Nissan Arena between the Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning.
Since joining as Principal Partner in 2021, Aurizon's investment has focused on driving awareness, increasing female workforce participation within the company, and creating meaningful staff engagement opportunities across Queensland.
The extended agreement ensures these strategic objectives will continue to be central to the partnership moving forward.
A cornerstone of the partnership remains the annual Aurizon Regional Tours, which enable Queensland Firebirds players and coaching staff to deliver grassroots netball clinics and community programs in regional locations across the state.
These tours, made possible through Aurizon's support and extensive regional network, have become an integral part of connecting elite netball with communities throughout Queensland.
The partnership will also continue to deliver popular game day activations, including the highly successful Aurizon $5K Play promotion. This initiative recently celebrated a memorable moment when one Firebirds member won $5,000 at the team's Round 11 home game against the West Coast Fever.
Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies said the renewal represents a significant vote of confidence in both the Queensland Firebirds and netball development across the state.
“The Queensland Firebirds represent the entire state on the national stage, and we're proud to have Aurizon extending their commitment with us through to 2029," Davies said.
“A cornerstone of our partnership has been engaging with regional communities and Aurizon's workforce through our touring program involving Firebirds coaches and players.
“This will continue to be an essential element of our collaboration as we not only connect with communities through netball clinics but also engage directly with Aurizon to showcase the company's operations and career opportunities for women across Queensland.”
Aurizon Head of Corporate Affairs Paul Cronin said there was strong alignment with the Firebirds in their championing of success and excellence in sport.
“Our sponsorship of the Firebirds is very popular with our team,” Cronin said.
“We have many Birdies’ fans and the team engagement with our staff is always well supported with strong connection between what it takes to be successful in sport and at work.
“We are excited to renew our commitment to the Firebirds and Netball Queensland and look forward to working together into the future.”
The partnership extension reinforces both organisations' commitment to supporting women's sport and creating pathways for female participation in traditionally male-dominated industries.
