Launched in March 2025, the Starting Seven provides a platform for values-aligned organisations to invest in the largest female participation sport in Australia - a game built on community, connection, and a proud legacy of excellence. The initiative supports programs that make netball more accessible, more inclusive and more impactful for Queenslanders of all ages.
Investment through the Starting Seven directly contributes to meaningful, community-focused initiatives. This includes expanding Diamond Spirit Engage - Netball Queensland’s culturally safe delivery program that brings netball to remote Indigenous communities through introductory clinics, equipment provision and upskilling of local leaders.
Further support will enhance regional talent development through a Regional and Remote Coaching and Development Program and a series of open invitation Regional Talent Combines designed to identify and nurture athletes from outside metropolitan areas.
Netball Queensland will also use the investment to establish a statewide network of Wellbeing Officers servicing all 83 affiliated associations, focusing on player welfare, education, and professional learning opportunities that lift community capability.
BDO, a leading global audit, tax and advisory firm with firm roots in Queensland, joins founding member Ticketek in demonstrating its commitment to strengthening netball’s social impact across Queensland. The partnership aligns with BDO’s long-standing dedication to community contribution through fundraising, volunteering, pro bono support and its national giving program, BCaring.
Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies said BDO’s support will help deliver long-term benefits for communities right across the state.
“Netball touches millions of Australians every year and the Starting Seven has been created to partner with like-minded organisations, like BDO, so together we can amplify that impact where it’s needed most,” Davies said.
“We are grateful to have BDO join us in this important work and thank them for investing in programs that make a real difference to Queensland communities.”
BDO’s partnership reinforces the growing momentum behind the Starting Seven and the shared commitment to shaping a stronger, more connected future for netball in Queensland.
“At BDO, we believe real change happens when we come together to support our communities,” BDO Chief Operating Officer Cara Wennerbom said.
“Joining the Starting Seven is about more than a corporate partnership. Our contribution is about standing alongside Netball Queensland and supporting local players to make netball accessible for everyone, especially in remote and regional communities.
“We’re proud to play our part in creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and ensuring everyone has the chance to thrive, on and off the court.”
