The Jets captain will finish 2023 having guided her Sapphire side to a finals berth, performed admirably as a Queensland Firebirds temporary replacement player in Suncorp Super Netball, as well as represented the Tonga Tala at her debut Netball World Cup.
“It’s been a big year for me going in and out of the Jets, Firebirds and Tonga,” the 27-year-old said.
“I’m growing both as a person and a netballer.”
As a mother of two young boys, with a fulltime job in retail, Veve somehow also manages to be in some of the best form of her career.
“It’s such a family-oriented club,” Veve said when asked about her time with the Jets.
“It’s so professional and I love wearing the green and white dress. We stick together and there’s a great culture off the court which leads onto the court.”
Firebirds and Tala representative commitments have meant Veve's presence for the Jets this season has been inconsistent.
The upcoming Netball World Cup (July 28 - August 6) clashes with the HART Sapphire Series July 30 grand final, meaning Veve will again be a glaring omission should the Jets achieve their goal of making it through to the premiership game.
“It’ll definitely be a tough one to miss, I can’t stop thinking about it,” Veve said.
“They’ve played so well without me so I know they’ll be fine. I will be wearing my green and white over in South Africa.”
Veve and her Tonga Tala teammates will head to Cape Town placed seventh in the World Netball international rankings.
“It’s hard to believe, and I still don’t feel it’s sunk in yet,” Veve said of her World Cup selection.
“I see the Diamonds post their team, and the Silver Ferns post their team, and knowing that’s our competition and we’re playing Australia in the second game is crazy.”
For a player who has seemingly conquered the court at every level, it’s exciting to think her best may yet be still to come.
“Last year was a really good year as well with all my netball,” Veve said.
“I didn’t think it could get any better, but we’ll see after the World Cup.”
In the meantime, the Jets have a HART Sapphire Series grand final to qualify for and, more immediately, a First Nations Round game against the fifth-placed Sunshine Coast Thunder this Sunday night at Nissan Arena.
