This year’s event is booming with growth with 62 teams registered – 15 more than in 2024 – as regional associations seize the opportunity to participate in a high-level carnival in their own backyard.
Over two action-packed days, 620 players will compete across 367 matches at the Townsville City Netball Association.
This weekend’s event is made possible thanks to the support of Townsville City Council.
There are also some fresh faces among the 14 associations represented in the event including three teams from Weipa Social Netball Club and one from Palm Island Netball Association competing as invitational entrants.
Palmerston Netball Association is also making the trip from the Northern Territory to join the action.
Former Australian Diamond and Queensland Firebird Sharon Finnan-White’s First Nations Academy of Excellence will also be represented with two squads competing.
Associations sending teams include Bowen, Burdekin, Cairns, Innisfail & Districts, Mackay, Mareeba, Tableland, Tully and Whitsunday – representing all corners of Queensland’s northern regions.
Amid the friendly rivalries and fierce matchups, the Carnival continues to champion fair play and respect through the Green Band Initiative - launched earlier this year at Senior State Age.
Look out for umpires sporting a green band, a visual reminder that these are our under-18 officials deserving of extra understanding and encouragement as they develop their skills.
Netball Queensland partners Ray White Queensland and Baskin-Robbins will also be present at the event.
Country Carnival is more than a tournament; it’s a community celebration that unites families, volunteers, coaches and supporters in a shared love of netball.
With expanded participation and an inclusive atmosphere, this year’s Carnival promises unforgettable moments both on and off the court.
