For the second year running, the North South Coast school has claimed bragging rights as the best high school team in Queensland after defeating South Coast rivals Somerset College in a thrilling decider at Nissan Arena.
Canterbury took out the decider 31-22 as defender Holly Comyns came out on top in her much-anticipated match-up against fellow national pathway squad member Elsa Sif Sandholt.
Canterbury’s Kaylee Tamala was named MVP of the Cup grand final, while Downlands College from the Darling Downs Region finished third in the division.
In the Shield division, King’s Christian College ended Canterbury’s five-year hold on the trophy, claiming a 26-23 win in a neck-and-neck contest between the two.
King’s goal attack Brooklyn Kingi received the grand final MVP in the Shield division with Sunshine Coast’s Mountain Creek State High School securing third place.
The hotly contested Boys’ division came down to a clash been undefeated St James College and Carmel College, with St James doing enough to take the title with a 26-23 victory.
Despite just falling short, the grand final appearance capped off a big event for Carmel who competed as an invitational team due to the withdrawal of a regional winner pre-tournament.
The win means St James goes one better than last year when they went down to Ignatius Park in the 2022 Boys’ grand final.
Carmel’s Ethan Shalhoub was named Boys’ grand final MVP with Sunshine Coast-based Matthew Flinders Anglican College finishing third in the division.
The two-day finals series featured 52 teams from across the state and completed a journey that began with 13 regional rounds boasting a total of 573 teams from 233 schools – including 93 teams in the Boys’ division, up substantially from last year’s 66 entries.
Netball Queensland would like to thank partners University of Queensland, Nissan, Valour, Containers for Change, Mizuno and RHP Physiotherapy for their support of the event.
