Playing on their home courts at Central Queensland University, the Claws began the new competition with a come-from-behind 58-51 win over North Queensland United on Saturday morning.
Another fourth-quarter comeback against the Mackay Monarchs in their second match, having trailed by seven goals at three-quarter time, sealed a 55-53 win in Saturday evening’s fixture before the hosts wrapped up the weekend with a 51-47 triumph over the Far North Flames on Sunday.
Townsville-based North Queensland United are second on the ladder after bouncing back from their opening round loss to the Claws to defeat the Flames (52-46) and then the Monarchs (59-37) in their Sunday clash.
The Flames began with a 50-44 win over the Monarchs on Saturday before their losses to United and the Claws in their remaining fixtures while the Monarchs are winless after this weekend’s opening round.
Joining the teams at last weekend’s action were HART Premier League Netball coaches, fostering a connection between the Ruby North franchises and the south-east based HPNL clubs.
The next round of Ruby North will be in Townsville on June 21 and 22.
