A bottom-of-the-ladder clash isn't something that the ACU Brisbane North Cougars nearing the halfway stage of the season but the four-time premiers grabbed a much-needed victory on Saturday with a thumping 77-49 win over the Carina Leagues Club Tigers.
Towering goaler Nalani Makunde was prolific in the match with 47 goals from 50 attempts as Liz White's team picked up just their second win of the season to stay in touch with the top four.
The Tigers remain rooted to the bottom of the ladder with just one win from six matches and will need to dust themselves off before this weekend's clash with the Bond University Bull Sharks at Nissan Arena.

The match of the round on paper didn't disappoint as the Bull Sharks and Jets played out a nail-biting 66-all draw.
The Jets' unbeaten status for 2024 was under serious threat after back-to-back two-pointers by Bull Sharks' duo Kaylin van Gruenen and Mia Stower had opened up a seven-point lead in the third quarter but Paula Stuart's team fought back with Lily Cubby nailing a crucial super shot of her own in the dying stages to ensure a share of the points.
The Jets are now six points clear on the top of the ladder while the Bull Sharks have climbed into the top four with two wins and a draw in their first four matches.
Queensland Firebirds training partner Sasha Flegler was a standout in the midcourt while Jets shooter Elsa Sif Sandholt finished with 46 goals and Queensland Under-19 representative van Gruenen notched 52 goals.
Gold Coast Titans vs Sunshine Coast Thunder
The Titans kept the pressure on the table-topping Jets with a dominant 71-50 win over the Thunder at Carrara on Sunday.
Defender Shenae Grant was a standout for the Titans, helping to subdue Sunshine Coast Lightning training partner Charlie Bell in the Thunder attack, as the Titans claimed a third win from four matches to jump into second spot on the ladder.
The Thunder's second defeat of the season leaves them third on the ladder, level on points with the Titans but behind the Gold Coasters on percentage.
