COVID 19 Update – 17 December 2021
With the recent change in border restrictions for Queensland, today marks the first day of changes regarding how some activities in the community take place. Netball Queensland has received information from the Queensland Government concerning an update as to requirements relating to sporting activities, where both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are permitted to participate, however, some factors need to be considered in how your netball organisation is placed regarding the changes that have come into effect.
Occupant Density Requirements - Outdoor
Do not apply either on the field of play or at outdoor activities
Occupant Density Requirements - Indoor
Do not apply on the field of play, however, density limits of one person per two square metres apply off the field of play.
Indoor venues, activities and events are required to collect contact information via the Check In Qld app and operate in accordance with COVID Safe Checklist.
Hospitality Services Within a Sporting Environment
There are some aspects of the active industry whereby vaccination is a requirement of entry. The most likely scenario for a netball organisation is where a clubhouse also houses a hospitality venue such as café, club, restaurant or bar. The requirements for netball organisations that operate these establishments are stated here.
Masks
Earlier today, the Queensland Government stated that, across Queensland, masks will be required to be worn in certain settings (shops, hospitals, aged care, public transport and ride share vehicles) from 1:00 a.m. on Saturday 18 December 2021. More detail will be available through the Queensland Government COVID-19 website leading up to and when this comes into effect.
Please note that the restrictions for the unvaccinated do not apply to people under 16 years of age.
Please be aware that:-
- Regulations can change at short notice, so watch the Queensland Government websites closely.
- Cases are likely to increase in Queensland with more people able to enter the state.
- If an organisation is issued a contact tracing alert, the venue may be closed for cleaning and some staff / volunteers and patrons may need to quarantine.
For more information on what restrictions are in place in Queensland, please visit the Queensland Government website and also the Restrictions for Sport, Recreation and Fitness Organisations webpage.

Please abide by the Public Health Orders in place and keep up to date regarding COVID-19, as things may change at short notice.
