Downey Park hosts successful Junior State Age in milestone year

Thousands of young athletes as well as officials, supporters and volunteers enjoyed a spectacular four days of competition.

Hinterland District Netball Association stood tall with wins in the 12 Years Championship, 12 Years Challenge, 13 Years Championship and 13 Years Challenge categories while Downey Park’s own 13 Green team was a popular victor in the 13 Years Division Three category.

There was also success for Gympie District Netball Association, who took out the Boys category with Brisbane Netball Association finishing runner-up.

Netball Queensland thanks all the competitors, officials, and volunteers whose dedication and enthusiasm made this event possible as well as Downey Park NA for their outstanding hosting.

The event also witnessed a record number of partnership activations, ensuring there was plenty of action off the court as well as on it.

Notable highlights included Woolworths making close to 1300 smoothies on their smoothie bikes over Saturday and Sunday, over 70 participants enjoying Woolworths NetSetGO clinics, Mizuno selling out of shoes and Valour and HART Sport activations proving popular.

Westfield and Origin made their debuts at a Junior State age with Origin providing LPG gas to for BBQs at the venue.

Containers for Change’s Container Cup mini-Challenge also saw positive engagement, with the winner of a $1000 HART Sport voucher to be announced next week.

A special mention goes to umpire Ashley Petersen from Warwick, who was awarded her C Badge over the weekend while 12 other umpires received recognition medals.
