- Restrictions are extended in Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas until 6pm Saturday, 3 July with an update expected AM Saturday.
- Lockdown restrictions are lifting in other areas previously in lockdown but additional measures remain in place until 5.59pm, Fri 16 July.
The Queensland Government has announced today (Friday, 2 July 2021) that:
- Current restriction have been extended across the Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas for another 24 hours, until 6pm, Saturday 3 July 2021.
- Restrictions have eased in other local government areas where residents are required to wear masks for the next 2 weeks. These regions include Ipswich, Logan City, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Townsville (including Magnetic Island) and Palm Island.
This means:
- We are unable to proceed with events this evening (Friday, 2 July and tomorrow, Saturday 3 July before 6pm) in the Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas.
- All other local government areas that were previously in lockdown are now able to resume activities following the Queensland Government guidelines www.covid19.qld.gov.au including: Ipswich, Logan City, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Townsville (including Magnetic Island) and Palm Island. However, additional measures remain in place for 14 days until 5.59pm on Friday 16 July 2021.
- Residents must carry a mask at all times outside the home and wear them indoors or if social distancing isn’t possible. Restrictions also apply to businesses and events.
Impacts across Netball Queensland activities are noted below:
Queensland Firebirds:
The Queensland Firebirds Vs GIANTS game originally scheduled to be held at Nissan arena has been moved to Melbourne. The game will now be played: at 5pm at John Cain Arena.
Hart Sapphire Series games:
Due to the extension of the Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government area lockdown, games scheduled at Nissan Arena and Townsville Stadium this weekend Sat 3rd and Sun 4th July have been postponed until Sat 10th and Sun 11th July. Direct contact will be made with operation managers for each team to finalise details.
Nissan Arena:
Events scheduled at Nissan Arena on Friday 2 July and Saturday, 3 July will be unable to continue due to the extension of the lockdown in Brisbane and Moreton Bay local government areas. Contact is being made directly with those who have bookings across Friday and Saturday. At this stage, bookings held for Sunday 4 July are going ahead pending further advice from the Queensland Government.
School Holiday Clinics scheduled for next week (5th July onwards)
- Netball Queensland Community Clinics scheduled next week at Springfield and Townsville will go ahead as planned.
- At this time, clinics set for Wakerley may be impacted but we’re in a wait and see situation and will update you as restrictions change/more information comes to hand from the Queensland Government over the next few days.
- The train like a Firebird Clinic on the 5th July has been postponed.
- Specific information will be sent to registered participants prior to each clinic.
Community netball:
Brisbane and Moreton Bay Local Government Areas – still in lockdown until 6pm, Sat 3 July.
All netball activities in the Brisbane and Moreton Bay Local Government Areas will continue to be suspended at this time. This includes training sessions, matches and all other netball-related gatherings, and will continue until 6pm, Saturday 3 July 2021. This suspension will remain in place until the lockdown is lifted by the Queensland Government. All netball fixtures scheduled for Saturday, 3 July in Brisbane and Moreton Bay Local Government areas can not proceed at this time.
Others Areas
We’re currently awaiting advice from the Department of Sport and Recreation to confirm the requirements for community netball in those areas where lockdown will lift at 6pm, Friday 2 July including: Ipswich, Logan City, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Townsville (including Magnetic Island) and Palm Island.
Any specific advice or requirements, will be provided directly by Netball Queensland to the nominated Association COVID Safety Officer as it becomes available.
Please ensure that your association has provided Netball Queensland with the details of your nominated COVID Safety Officer so that we can provide them with relevant information as it becomes available.
Nissan State Age:
Postponed – new dates to be provided early next week.
We are continuing to liaise with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and other key stakeholders regarding the rescheduling of Nissan State Age until later in the year.
We are hopeful that we can announce new dates early next week. These will be announced directly to associations via email as well as via Netball Queensland social media as soon as possible.
National Titles:
National Titles have been cancelled in Hobart.
Men's National Netball Championships:
