The call to get involved comes on the back of a bumper year in 2024 with Netball Queensland recording 70,679 unique registered members in 2024 - a significant 12.57 per cent increase from 2023’s figure of 62,782.
This achievement highlights the strength of netball across Queensland, from grassroots initiatives to the elite level, cementing the sport’s place as a cornerstone of Australian culture.
Adding participation in carnivals, competitions and netball events across the state and the incredible cohort of volunteers, officials, coaches and umpires that tirelessly support our game, participation exceeded 120,000 in netball in Queensland last year.
The milestone comes in a year where the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season broke records as the most attended female domestic league in Australian sporting history alongside record levels of grassroots participation, showcasing netball’s enduring appeal and community impact.
Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies expressed her pride in the organisation’s achievement.
“These numbers reflect the incredible passion and dedication of our netball community,” Davies said.
“From our youngest players to our elite athletes, as well as our tireless coaches, officials, and volunteers, every individual has contributed to this success.
“Netball is more than a sport - it’s a way to bring people together. We are proud that our sport is diverse, fosters leadership, builds confidence and is grounded in rewarding team efforts.
Netball Queensland General Manager Glenn Dennis echoed Davies’ sentiments, highlighting the broader significance of the achievement.
“This growth is a testament to the hard work of our clubs, associations, and partners who have embraced innovative ways to deliver netball experiences. Unique registered members are just the tip of the iceberg for netball participation with tens of thousands more playing through inter-school competitions, holiday clinics and come and try events throughout the state,” Dennis said.
“Whether through social competitions, local club competitions, or elite pathways, we are ensuring netball is accessible and inclusive for everyone. Our goal now is to build on this momentum and chase our vision to be the most played and supported sport in Queensland.
“Our message for 2025 is a simple one, play netball, it’s fun for all.”
Alongside existing established competitions such as Senior and Junior State Age, Primary Schools Cup, Country Carnival and the Vicki Wilson Championship – Netball Queensland’s commitment to increasing netball’s growth in 2025 is evident with the addition to the calendar of the Ruby North division of the HART Premier Netball League and Sunshine Challenge Netball Invitational.
Next year’s HART Premier Netball League will also feature the addition of the Moreton Bay City Pulse franchise while Redlands Coast Eagles have joined the Ruby Division.
