Wednesday’s trio of fixtures at Nissan Arena will feature teams wearing Pride bibs, umpires with Pride ribbons and special ‘Proud to Play’ centre circle decals on the venue’s community courts.
It’s all part of a celebration of inclusion that highlights Netball Queensland’s commitment to building a culture that welcomes, includes and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.
The Pride Round begins with the ACU Brisbane North Cougars taking on the Brisbane South Wildcats on Nissan Arena’s Show Court at 6pm.
Table-topping TAE Aerospace Ipswich Jets then face the Carina Leagues Club Tigers on Nissan Arena’s Court 7 at 6.30pm before the action wraps up with Bond University Bull Sharks taking on Sunshine Coast Thunder on Show Court from 7.30pm.
Hosting a Pride Round in its elite state competition is a highlight of a year-round strategic commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion by NQ which was recognised earlier this year at the Pride in Sport Awards where the organisation achieved Silver Tier status for its participation in the Pride in Sport Index (PSI) Submission.
Administered by Pride in Sport, the PSI is an independently administered national benchmarking system used to assess LGBTQ+ inclusion within Australian sport.
An initiative of the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Australian Sports Commission, the index provides the opportunity for all national and state sporting organisations to have their LGBTQ+ related initiatives, programs and policies evaluated against global best practice.
The Silver Tier achievement came just three months after NQ achieved Bronze Tier status.
Pride in Sport is a national not-for-profit sporting inclusion program spearheaded by Australia’s largest LGBTQ+ health organisation, ACON.
NQ has been a member of Pride in Sport for three years, building its reputation as a leader in LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport after introducing Suncorp Super Netball’s inaugural Pride Match in 2021.
