After a hugely successful four-day event at the Townsville City Netball Association courts, Hinterland District claimed championships in four divisions to be crowned the Champion Association for the competition.
Hinterland District teams were victorious in the 12 Years, 13 Challenge, 14 Challenge and 14 Championship divisions to complete a great tournament for the Mudgeeraba-based association.
The 13 Championship was won by Sunshine Coast Netball Association’s 13 Gold team, while Darling Downs Stampede rounded out the winners with victory in the Boys Division over local favourites Townsville City 1.
Highfields and Districts Netball Association, near Toowoomba, were presented with the Performance Award as the tournament concluded on Tuesday.
Netball Queensland congratulates all who took part in the competition, which brought thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and supporters to Townsville from across the state.
Several associations such as Bowen, Charters Towers, Herbert River, Whitsundays, Tully and Mount Isa all overcame significant challenges to take part in the competition for the first time in many years.
Overall, over 6000 people per day attended the championships, highlighting the enormity of the competition and the success that occurs when a major event such as this is held regionally.
The stellar turnout, with competition growing by 14 teams from last year, vindicated Netball Queensland’s decision to take Junior State Age regional for the first time in nearly a decade with regional team registrations doubling in response.
Netball Queensland is grateful to the efforts of Townsville City Netball Association and its volunteers for the tireless work they put in to ensure the success of the event as host association.
There were also 209 umpires participating across the weekend with Charters Towers’ Jayde Miller successful in attaining her National C badge.
Netball Queensland also acknowledged the improvement, effort and performance of 12 umpires who received umpire recognition awards.

Activations by Netball Queensland partners Mizuno, HART Sport, Valour, Woolworths, AV Jennings and Containers for Change as well as a chill-out zone and food vendors kept things going off court as well between the action.
Netball Queensland appreciates the support of presenting partner Nissan as well as a grant received from Townsville City Council which helped bring the event to the city.
