Jodie Garrity, President of The Gap Netball Club, exemplifies the true spirit of netball through her tireless dedication and passion for the sport.
Her work spans various roles within her club, the Downey Park Netball Association (DPNA), QCNA and local schools, where she gives countless hours to support players, coaches, and the netball community.
In 2024, Garrity has taken on an impressive array of responsibilities. She not only coaches three club teams, mentors junior coaches and leads QCNA representative teams, but also coordinates the Met North Vicki Wilson Cup and is a member of the Boys and Men's Netball Advisory Group (BAMS).
Her commitment to promoting inclusion and participation is evident in her innovative initiatives, such as the All Play Inclusion Program. This program includes projects like the Boys in Netball Mentoring Pilot, aimed at fostering long-term engagement for boys in the sport, and offering free Net Set Go programs to new players.
Under Garrity’s leadership, The Gap Netball Club has also introduced inclusive uniform options and significantly increased participation in its Inters Social Netball Program for girls aged 16-19.
Her passion for boys' netball is particularly noteworthy.
Garrity has driven the creation of boys' state teams, even facilitating the inclusion of players from Northern Territory to participate in Queensland competitions.
As a coach, Garrity goes above and beyond, creating a supportive and fun environment for her players. From organizing special training sessions with Super Netball athletes to providing netball diaries for her players, she instils confidence, passion and a love for the game in every team she mentors.
Jodie Garrity’s selflessness, leadership, and unwavering commitment make her a deserving finalist for the 2024 Spirit of Netball Award.
