19s Head Coach Rebecca Stower has named Jayden Molo as captain of her team with Ellie Brice to be the vice-captain.
Stower said Molo’s natural leadership qualities had already been apparent throughout the team’s preparations while Brice’s on-court credentials were proven after her leadership of the national title-winning 17 and Under team in the 2023 NNC.
“Jayden demonstrates a quiet yet influential leadership style, and it's evident that girls naturally turn to her during both training sessions and games,” Stower said.
“She leads by example, embodying our values and behaviours, and her wealth of Nationals experience adds significant value. Jayden is a tenacious and determined competitor who always stands behind her teammates with unwavering support.
“Ellie, with her track record as a leader from the 2023 National Championship-winning team, seamlessly complements Jayden's approach.
“Her talent for effortlessly bringing the team together, combined with her compassionate demeanour and fierce competitive spirit, makes her a valuable asset.”
17s Head Coach Anna Young has turned to Rio Burns as her captain with Sarah Joyce named as vice-captain.
Young said Burns’ team-first attitude was a key component in her selection.
“Rio embodies the epitome of a true team leader: selfless, energetic, positive, supportive, and approachable,” Young said.
“Her unwavering commitment to putting the team first and infectious energy uplifts everyone around her, fostering a culture of camaraderie and excellence.
“Whether on or off the court, Rio leads by example, demonstrating her dedication to the collective goals and values that unite the team.”
A similar focus on the importance of the collective was behind Joyce’s selection as vice-captain.
“Sarah is a remarkable role model, embodying exemplary high-performance behaviours and unwavering commitment to the team's success,” Young said.
“She represents the essence of putting the team first, consistently prioritising collective goals over individual accolades.
“Her dedication and respect for her teammates has earned her their admiration and trust. Her leadership is visible on and off court, inspiring those around her to strive for greatness.”
The 2024 NNC will be held at Jubilee Park Stadium in Frankston from April 9-14 with representatives from the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia joining Queensland in the competition.
