With 70 teams, approximately 800 players and 470 matches scheduled across two action-packed days, this year's carnival represents a significant milestone in the growth of the reimagined format that was designed to bring together regional Queensland associations and celebrate the depth of netball talent across the state.
A total of 17 associations will compete across the weekend, headlined by eight associations making their Country Carnival debut since the event's return.
Boyne Tannum, Bundaberg, Capricorn Coast, Charters Towers and Surrounds, Clermont, Emerald, Gladstone and Mount Isa Amateur Netball Associations will all take the court for the first time under the current format, joining Herbert River and Sarina and District Netball Associations, who both return having last competed at the 2024 carnival.
Netball Queensland also thanks Mackay Regional Council for their support of the event.
The massive weekend of netball will be overseen by 70 umpires, who will receive valuable development and support from Netball Queensland Umpire Coaches throughout the event.
Netball Queensland's Green Armband Initiative will be in place across all courts, supporting under-18 umpires by creating a safer and more encouraging environment. The green armbands serve as a visual reminder to players, coaches and spectators that these are young officials developing their skills, reinforcing respect for umpires at every level as a core value of the game.
The 80 registered coaches will also benefit from dedicated support through Netball Queensland's Coach Development team, who will provide on-site mentoring opportunities throughout the carnival. This gives coaches the chance to refine their skills and gain fresh insights in a dynamic, supportive environment as regional netball takes centre stage in Mackay.
