With registrations open now, Netball Queensland (NQ) is urging budding netballers to jump on board for 2026, pointing to a statewide footprint of 83 venues that are being progressively improved through NQ’s Infrastructure Strategy 2024–2034.
Momentum in the sport is already clear with registered participant numbers growing 6.5 per cent in 2025 from 2024.
To meet increasing demand, NQ has helped to secure $156 million in government investment towards netball and multi-sport facility developments state-wide, with approximately $80m being netball-specific investment.
Across the state, community netballers in early 2026 will have the joy of experiencing newly redeveloped high-quality facilities at South Coast Netball Association (SCNA), Brisbane Netball Association, Gympie, Hinterland District, Redlands, Lockyer Valley and Noosa.
Several other projects are set for completion in 2026 including major upgrades in Biloela, Burdekin, Innisfail, Kingaroy, Mareeba, Mount Isa, Nanango, Toowoomba and Western Districts Netball Association in Brisbane.
Further major projects include a new home for Rockhampton Netball Association as part of Stage 1 of the Rockhampton Regional Sports Precinct, the construction of an additional eight new hard courts with lighting at Capricorn Coast Netball Association and the construction of a new clubhouse for Pine Rivers Netball Association which are all aiming to be completed in 2027.
“Netball in Queensland is growing and so are the places we play,” NQ Chief Executive Officer Kate Davies said.
“These upgrades mean more hard courts, better lighting, improved amenities and more welcoming and inclusive venues for volunteers, participants and families.
“If you’re thinking about playing in 2026, now’s the time to get in touch with your local club or association and lock it in.”
Located at Palm Beach on the southern end of the Gold Coast, SCNA’s $285,000 resurfacing project for its 15 hard courts with funding support from the City of Gold Coast includes a modern acrylic coating and all courts are fitted with new adjustable goalposts, rings, nets, and updated markings including Super Shot circles and Rolling Sub boxes.
“South Coast Netball Association’s new state of the art courts are a game changer,” SCNA General Manager Jackie Parra said.
“We now have 15 outdoor courts that are as good as any in the southeast.
“They offer a safer, more professional venue for our players.
“This project has been long overdue. We have been working on this project for a number of years and we are proud to deliver this to our netball community.”
SCNA will host an open day at their facilities this Saturday, February 14, including a Woolworths NetSetGo Come and Play clinic as part of Netball Australia’s Woolworths NetSetGo Come and Play Day.
With the 2026 season just around the corner, take the time to check out the facilities on offer in your community at Netball Australia’s Woolworths NetSetGo Come and Play Day this Saturday.
Local netball centres across the state will take part in the nationwide event, offering kids aged 5-10 the chance to throw on a bib and try netball in a fun, inclusive environment before registering.
