It’s a simple idea transformed into a powerful initiative.
As a proud recipient of a 2025 Woolworths NetSetGO grant, Nanango and District Netball Association has utilised their funding to provide free fruit for all players prior to training sessions throughout their 2026 season.
What began as a way to promote healthy eating habits and ensure every player had access to nutritious snacks has evolved into something that touches every aspect of their club culture.
The weekly fruit station has become a natural gathering point where players, parents, and families connect before heading onto the courts.
This simple initiative has created a welcoming environment that goes far beyond nutrition, fostering the kind of community spirit that makes local netball associations thrive.
The program has delivered multiple benefits for the association: promoting healthy eating habits among young athletes, ensuring equitable access to nutritious snacks regardless of family circumstances and creating meaningful social connections that strengthen the entire netball community.
Nanango and District Netball Association President Katie Mangan has witnessed firsthand how this initiative has transformed their weekly training sessions and strengthened community bonds.
“The initiative was very well received by our netball community and supported player wellbeing, participation and engagement at training and games,” Mangan said.
“It also encouraged social connection amongst players and families and contributed positively to the overall Woolworths NetSetGO experience for our younger participants.
“We appreciate the support provided through the Woolworths NetSetGO program and the positive impact it continues to have within our association.”
Nanango's success story represents exactly the kind of community impact the Woolworths Netball Grants Program was designed to create. Since becoming the naming rights sponsor of Woolworths NetSetGO in 2019, Woolworths has demonstrated unwavering commitment to grassroots netball that extends well beyond the professional courts.
Over the past seven years, Woolworths has donated more than $1.1 million to over 320 clubs and associations across Australia. This substantial investment has empowered local clubs to upgrade facilities, purchase essential equipment and launch innovative programs that directly benefit players and families in their communities.
The 2026 Woolworths Netball Grants Program is now open, offering $100,000 in cash grants to help local clubs and associations across Australia turn their ideas into reality.
Queensland clubs and associations are encouraged to explore how a Woolworths Netball Grant could benefit their community.
